#FreeToTweet Upping the Game of the First Amendment

Are you thankful for the freedom to pursue a certain religion, publish in the press, assemble peacefully with friends, petition for equality, or speak your mind freely about what’s going on in the world?

Are you a current college or high school student looking for financial assistance? You’re in the Missouri School of Journalism, so we are just going to assume the answer to those questions is a resounding “YES.”

#FreeToTweet is a hashtag that will be used on Twitter all day Thursday, Dec. 15, starting at midnight, to embrace our First Amendment.

Students ages 14 to 22 are eligible for this opportunity to express their opinions about these freedoms and why they mean so much to our society. Not only will you be spreading the word, but 22 tweeters are going to be chosen for a $5,000 scholarship to boot.

The First Amendment allows journalists (like you!) to provide news and entertainment to society, it allows us to provide that public forum and verify the truth. It’s the reason why JSB is able to blog and tweet our content anytime we feel like doing so.

Take hashtags to a whole other level and help spread the word about the importance of the First Amendment by tweeting with #FreeToTweet on December 15, 2011!
